Role Description:

At Hermeus, you’ll own the propulsion test facility design, analysis and fabrication. You will be responsible for the integration of test article to the facility, and carry out day to day rapid test operations. You’ll support data analysis, qualification testing, acceptance testing, and engine to airframe integration. As the test engineer you’ll be directly responsible for the success of engine test program. This position will report directly to the CTO.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, operate, and maintain the test infrastructure to support engine and aircraft testing
  • Develop detailed test procedures, and instrumentation and configuration definition, needed to perform the test and minimize risk within the constraints of the test plan
  • Design test requirements, hardware, software, and systems
  • Integrate and troubleshoot flight-representative hardware and vehicle systems
  • Establish functional and technical specifications and standards, solve hardware/software interface problems, define input/output parameters, and ensure proper integration of the entire system and subsystems
  • Document and resolve discrepancies encountered during testing, including maintenance of test conditions, troubleshooting, anomaly/discrepancy documentation, resolution and corrective action
  • Design advanced propulsion test stands, including fabrication drawings, fluids schematics, and instrumentation lists
  • Lead testing operations under high intensity conditions, with imperative attention to detail
  • Quickly develop and iterate on propulsion designs based on real test data

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, manufacturing engineering, or other engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of experience designing, fabricating, and testing complex engineering systems
  • Knowledge of noise reduction, grounding, filtering, and other techniques necessary to ensure quality data
  • Ability to adapt (including roles & responsibilities) while in a fast-paced, challenging work environment
  • Experience related to detailed cost/benefit analysis of projects as well as effectively engaging cross-functional stakeholders
  • Hands-on wrench-turning proficiency

Preferred Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency with hands-on propulsion skills such as tube routing, facility assembly, and pressure system operations
  • Proficiency with hands-on electrical skills such as soldering, insulating, splicing, and assembling harnesses
  • Experience with common fluid test instrumentation and components
  • Familiarity with Matlab or Python
  • Experience with design for manufacture
